FIERAGRICOLA: INAUGURATION TOMORROW BY MINISTER CATANIA. CONVENTION ON CAP REFORM AT 11.00 AM

From tomorrow until Sunday, Verona once again the European capital of agriculture

The exhibition at VeronaFiere welcomes more than 1,300 exhibitors over an area of 126 thousand square metres. More than 320 buyers expected from 46 countries. The event targets all operators in agricultural world and is structured around five shows: Agrimeccanica, Zoosystem, AgriService, Bioenergy Expo and Agripiazza. Without forgetting precision farming, conservative agriculture, Agrilabor and the Forum on Sustainable Agriculture.

Verona, 1 February 2012. The countdown is virtually over for the 110th edition of Fieragricola, that opens its doors tomorrow at VeronaFiere. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be presided by the Minister of Agricultural Policies, Mario Catania, who will then attend the inaugural convention focusing on the Common Agricultural Policy.

"Fieragricola," said the President of VeronaFiere, Ettore Riello, "in short, is one of the first international events in 2012 dedicated to the primary sector, with significant proportion of international operators (320 buyers from 46 countries world-wide will attend), and ensures crossways attention on all segments in agriculture, turning it into one of the most important events in the European agricultural exhibition panorama."

This "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" sees Fieragricola (www.fieragricola.it) spotlight two major themes: post-2013 CAP reform and sustainability, which will be analysed through a series of conventions, talk shows and events in the Sustainability Forum, Hall 1.

The CAP, in the year marking its 50th anniversary, will be the theme of the inaugural convention, during which the Minister of Agricultural Policies, Mario Catania, will outline the Italian position as regards the reform proposal presented last 12 October by European Commissioner Dacian Cioloş. The debate, titled "Towards the new Common Agricultural Policy: prospects, challenges and opportunities for sustainable agriculture" will see the involvement of the Minister of Agricultural Policies, Mario Catania, the President of the Agriculture Commission of the European Parliament, Paolo De Castro, the Director General of the European Agriculture Commission, José Manuel Silva Rodrìguez, and representatives of professional organisations.

Fieragricola 2012 overcomes the crisis with as many as 1,300 exhibitors from more than 20 countries and an international quota higher that 10% of total. The overall area of 126 thousand square metres, all the more, is joined by 20 thousand square metres dedicated to dynamic tests. As regards animal farming, 750 animals will animate the livestock halls, as well as an impressive 5 outside demo areas (four to engineering and one to energy from renewable sources).

Five theme areas. Fieragricola 2012 confirms the pillars of its exhibition and theme-based approach: Agrimeccanica (dedicated to technological and process innovations in the agricultural engineering, machinery and equipment field, with as many as five halls and 4 outside demo areas), Agriservice (innovative services for the development of agriculture, also including the Multi-Function Exhibition, opportunities for diversifying activity and sources of incme), Zoosystem (technologies and equipment for livestock breeding, products for animal nutrition and health, insemination centres and semen commercialisation companies, instruments and equipment for veterinary surgeons), Bioenergy Expo (the exhibition dedicated to energy from renewable sources in agriculture, www.bioenergyweb.it), Agripiazza (the exhibition of technical products for agriculture).

Fieragricola is an important showcase for agricultural entrepreneurs, breeders, agricultural mechanisation companies, veterinary surgeons, manufacturers and dealers in agricultural machinery, feed producers, industry producing goods for the primary sector, farm holiday centres and players in the short value chain. And each field is covered by specific spaces and targeted analysis.

A made-to-measure exhibition for everyone with a focus on sustainability, one of the main themes of the exhibition as a whole.

The main innovations. Innovations especially include the Forum on Sustainable Agriculture, a major initiative and an interactive occasion for training and growth of companies and agricultural entrepreneurs, in the light of a new model of Social, environmental and economic development of integrated agriculture in line with EU regulations.

The Exhibition of the sustainable engineering is increasingly specialised between precision farming and conservative agriculture: lower costs and lower impact on the environment are some of the immediate benefits.

New prospects for profitability and innovations will be provided by the Multi-Function Exhibition as opportunities for agriculture to diversify its entrepreneurial approach (the multi-function phenomenon will be outlined tomorrow afternoon at 15.00 in the Rossini Hall, Arena Convention Centre between halls 6 &7, with research conducted by Nomisma commissioned by Fieragricola & L'Informatore Agrario).

And Zoosystem returns with the 11th edition of the "European Open Holstein Show". A European comparison of Holstein cattle organised by the Verona Provincial Breeders Association, in collaboration with Aia, Apa Verona and VeronaFiere.

Animal farming in the limelight with the Technical-Informative Exhibition of breeds reared in Italy organised by the Italian Breeders Association in collaboration with National Breeder Associations for breeds and species; with the national Swiss Brown Cow exhibition and the Interbull Workshop. The objective of the project is to create a world database, implemented thanks to sharing information associated with genomics, starting from a controlled heritage of 1 million animals world-wide.

The new Fieragricola observatory will focus on employment: Agrilabor, dedicated to the new professions associated with agriculture, as well as encouraging contacts between supply and demand in the agricultural engineering employment field.
