12/02/2010 -  SWISS PODIUM AT THE EUROPEAN SWISS BROWN COW CHAMPIONSHIPS THE "SWISS BROWN OF THE YEAR" AWARD REMAINS IN ITALY (IN POTENZA)
More than 200 animals in the ring at Fieragricola. Swiss producers swept the field, taking victory in the Champion, Reserve and Absolute Third categories. An absolutely superb result was achieved by Lufer Gordon Beby, a cow reared by Palmino Ferramosca in Tramutola, province of Potenza.

07/02/2010 -  FIERAGRICOLA: MORE THAN 130 THOUSAND VISITORS
Attendance up by 7% compared to the previous edition of the exhibition held every two years, confirming its role as a major landmark for debate and commercial exchanges in Italian and European agriculture. In particular, there were more professional operators, dealers and sub-contractors, as well as international visitors from the Mediterranean and the Middle East. The President of Veronafiere Ettore Riello said: "A result far beyond our predictions." Director General Giovanni Mantovani: "Further growth among qualified operators."

The breeder from Mantua also took the top award in the "best young udder" category and a "special mention for cows" The "Top Breeder" medal went to an agricultural company based in Noceto (Parma).

05/02/2010 -  RESEARCH: YELLOW PULP KIWI AT VERONAFIERE AN EARLY VARIETY ALSO OFFERING 20% HIGHER YIELD
Patented by the University of Udine, the fruit is (also) sold by the Ceradini agricultural company, a nursery in the heart of Chievo (Verona). It is an early variety, with an extended storage life and production of 35 tonnes/hectare.

05/02/2010 -  AGRO-ENGINEERING LEADS TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION 450 THOUSAND OPERATORS TACKLE THE EUROPEAN UNION
The convention organised by VeronaFiere and Unima, in collaboration with Ceettar, focused on agricultural mechanisation companies, agricultural services and new market technologies. Aproniano Tassinari (Unima): "In recent years, the category has become more important." Gérard Napias (Ceettar): "We must keep an eye on unfair competition." De Castro responds: "We are ready to define the legal framework at EU level."

04/02/2010 -  MINISTER ZAIA INAUGURATES THE 109th FIERAGRICOLA "RECOVERY FOR CONSUMPTION AND PRICES". GMO: OPEN DEBATE
The Minister for Agricultural Policies, Luca Zaia, accompanied by the Under-secretary for Health, Francesca Martini. The keyword, after a difficult 2009 for Italian agriculture, is "optimism". And facts and figures of Fieragricola confirm that sector experts expect a turnaround. Zaia unveiled the New Holland world premiere and (also) spoke about GMO: "I oppose GMO and we will take legal action against the sentence of the Council of State that opened the way for transgenic seeds." The debate is open and Confagricoltura, having an opposite opinion, served genetically modified maize at table. The President of Veronafiere, Ettore Riello: "Fieragricola is enjoying strong growth and is a place open to dialogue."

The future of the CAP after 2013 will be discussed at European level in the next few months. "However, agriculture - that takes almost 40% of the EU financial statement - will receive less finance."

18/01/2010 -  FIERAGRICOLA: AN INCREASINGLY INTERNATIONAL EVENT COVERING ANIMAL FARMING, MARKETS, SUB-CONTRACTING AND BIO-ENERGY
The VeronaFiere exhibition dedicated to the primary sector is second on a European scale for its cost/contact ratio, immediately behind Agritechnica in Hannover. 10/12/2009 -  ENERGY FROM WOOD BIO-MASSES: RGE ANALYSIS "UP TO 20 MEGAWATT PER HECTARE FROM POPLAR GROVES"
Angelo Scaravonati, President of Rinnova Green Energy and partner of Bioenergy Expo, the Exhibition dedicated to energy from renewable sources in agriculture, analyses the wood bio-mass value chain to understand the most suitable approach by agricultural companies. From poplars grown in "Medium Rotation Forestry" to thermal and electrical energy, there is without doubt an economic advantage, not the least in view of finance for rural development plans (up to 40% of expenses sustained) and from the State for the production of green energy: 280 euro per megawatt generated. Bioenergy Expo will present a dynamic area to illustrate the wood-energy value chain.

04/12/2009 -  "THE CAP SHOULD ENSURE INCOME FOR COMPANIES THE INCREASE IN MILK QUOTAS HAS CUT FINES"
The Director of the "haute école" in Agro-Food Economics at Piacenza Cattolica University, Renato Pieri, also curator since 1994 of the annual milk market report, explains to VeronaFiere the complicated times for agriculture on an international scale. Inasmuch, he announces the need to reform the Common Agricultural Policy to defend not only production but also the income of entrepreneurs; he discusses milk quotas and the need to sign inter-professional price agreements ("to safeguard small producers"). Bio-energy? "Strategic when the price of petroleum exceeds 70 dollars/barrel." Will prices for cereals recover? "In every likelihood but the price indicate will move upwards when prices of dairt-cheese, meat and petroleum products increase."
