VERONA EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF AGRICULTURE. 2012 - 50 YEARS OF THE CAP AND 110 EDITIONS OF FIERAGRICOLA

2-5 February: spotlights on the challenges in the primary field (www.fieragricola.it)

From Rome, the President of Veronafiere, Ettore Riello: "The history of agriculture started with Fieragricola over the last 50 years has intersected with the Common Agricultural Policy." The international exhibition welcomes more than 1,300 exhibitors from over 20 countries. More than 320 buyers are expected from 46 countries. Five sections: Agrimeccanica, Zoosystem:, AgriService, Bioenergy Expo and Agripiazza. Without forgetting precision farming, conservative agriculture, Agrilabor and the Forum on Sustainable Agriculture. CEO & Director General of VeronaFiere, Giovanni Mantovani: "We are the only European exhibition centre focusing on the agricultural world with a vocation for dynamics." The Minister of Agricultural Policies, Mario Catania, presents the liberalisation package for the agro-food sector and announces: "I intended to make quite clear at Fieragricola that post 2013 CAP reform must be better tailored to Italian agriculture and not geared exclusively to extensive farming."

Rome, 24 January 2012. Fieragricola places agriculture at the heart of the debate. And it does so from Rome, from the Ministry for Agricultural Policies in Via XX Settembre, where Minister Mario Catania - after confirming his attendance at the inaugural convention of Fieragricola (Thursday 2 February at 11.00 a.m. in the Verdi Auditorium) - previewed Italy's position as regards reform of the Common Agricultural Policy. "As currently laid out," said Catania, "the proposal of the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Dacian Cioloş, does not satisfy Italy. I will also make this quite clear in Verona to the Director General, Manuel José Silva Rodriguez, because Italian agriculture is not safeguarded but overlooked to the advantage of extensive farming."
Fieragricola (next 2-5 February) thus confirms its role as a place for high-level debate and makes ready to celebrate - as pointed out at the Press Conference this morning by the President of VeronaFiere, Ettore Riello - "110 editions in the year of the 50th anniversary of the CAP. Two stories intersecting with the objective of helping agriculture to grow: since 1898 in Verona and 1962 at EU level."
The "Journey to the centre of the Earth" (the claim for Fieragricola 2012) starts off from abroad Internationalisation, the central aspect of VeronaFiere global management plan, is strengthened even further for Fieragricola. "The event will be attended by more than 320 international buyers from 46 countries worldwide, 11 more compared to the previous edition," said CEO & Director General, Giovanni Mantovani. Fieragricola, with its transversality towards the entire world of agriculture, once again in 2012 confirms its status as a true 'International Agri-business show'".
Riello: here are some facts and figures about Fieragricola. Highly specialised and targeting all operators in the agricultural field thanks to a broad exhibition offering, Fieragricola - as Riello pointed out - will welcome to VeronaFiere "more than 1,300 exhibitors from over 20 countries, for an area of 126 thousand square metres inside and 20 thousand outside for dynamic tests. Without forgetting 750 head of livestock in the two halls dedicated to animal farming."
Expertise and spectacle. Business and entertainment - the two souls of an exhibition event.
Five theme areas. The cardinal points of Fieragricola 2012: Agrimeccanica (dedicated to technological and process innovations in the agricultural engineering, machinery and equipment field, with as many as five halls and 4 outside demo areas), Agriservice (innovative services for the development of agriculture, also including the Multi-Function Exhibition, opportunities for diversifying activity and sources of incme), Zoosystem (technologies and equipment for livestock breeding, products for animal nutrition and health, insemination centres and semen commercialisation companies, instruments and equipment for veterinary surgeons), Bioenergy Expo (the exhibition dedicated to energy from renewable sources in agriculture, www.bioenergyweb.it), Agripiazza (the exhibition of technical products for agriculture).
The main innovations. Fieragricola turns the spotlights on the primary sector with an important trade offering, debates, technical and scientific meetings, shows, dynamic tests (for all updates, visit the site www.fieragricola.it).
The 2012 edition will pay major attention to the Common Agricultural Policy; the inaugural convention, as already mentioned, will be attended - among others - by the Minister of Agricultural Policies, Mario Catania, the President of the Agriculture Commission of the European Parliament, Paolo De Castro, the Director General of the European Agriculture Commission, José Manuel Silva Rodrìguez and representatives of sector associations.
The important Forum on Sustainable Agriculture will "preview the new eco-sustainable course in European agriculture post-2013," Mantovani pointed out. "Sustainability will also be the central theme for mechanisation, with the Exhibition of sustainable engineering". Precision farming and conservative agriculture will be further tools at Fieragricola helping to contain production costs and reduce environmental impact.
The new frontiers of agriculture will animate the Multi-Function Exhibition by offering opportunities for agriculture to diversify its entrepreneurial approach. The phenomenon was investigated by Nomisma, which will present the results of research commissioned by Fieragricola & L'Informatore Agrario.
And Zoosystem returns with the 11th edition of the "European Open Holstein Show", an international comparison dedicated to the Holstein breed, while the Italian Swiss Brown Cow Breeders Association will parade the best cattle from all over Italy.
International animal farming also involves scientific topics, with the Interbull Workshop dedicated to genomics.
Opportunities for work and agricultural machinery are at the heart of the Agrilabor project, the section targeting the new professions linked with agriculture in order to encourage the meeting between supply and demand for work in agricultural engineering.
The liberalisation package in agriculture. During the Press Conference presenting Fieragricola 2012, the Minister of Agricultural Policies, Mario Catania, illustrated the contents of the agro-foods package included in the liberalisation decree.
